Since teachers are the backbone of education, Mia supports strengthening Maryland teachers unions and collective bargaining rights. Local economies grow stronger as unions do, and Maryland's 6th Congressional District will thrive as a result.
We need to set the federal minimum salary for teachers to $60,000 to entice students of all disciplines and backgrounds to become teachers. Without attracting and retaining talented teachers for the value they offer us, Maryland risks falling behind.
Mia will fight for students to ensure they have breakfast and lunch on every school day, her program will assist eligible kids by offering affordable or free lunches that are nutritionally balanced at every school throughout the nation. Her goal is to ensure the federally assisted meal programs' are operating in public and nonprofit private schools and residential child care institutions. She also plans to the expand this day-care and after school programs if elected.
Maryland needs universal pre-K so we can catch up with the rest of the world. We can invest in early childhood education while also allowing parents a safe place to send children without paying 1000’s of dollars a month.
Mia will fight for more education funding for schools so that all of our children receive equal and high quality education. Furthermore, Mia supports the creation and expansion of Judy Centers to create stronger community support infrastructure.
Mia will fight for our Pell Grant winners with loans held by the Department of Education, the Department of Education will offer up to $20,000 in debt cancellation, and for non-Pell Grant recipients, up to $10,000 in debt cancellation.
Mia will fight for more education funding for schools so that all of our children receive equal and high quality education. We also need to lessen the focus on standardized testing and focus more on how to prepare students for the 21st century. An immersive environment is necessary to encourage our children to learn and grow.
